Hamburg Airport investing in personnel, digitalisation and infrastructure
Hamburg Airport today presented its balance sheet for the 2018 financial year. The challenges of the summer and the slight decrease in passenger figures shaped the past year. In 2018, the airport was focused on passengers: with optimised infrastructure, modernised security checkpoints and new self-bag-drop kiosks, Hamburg Airport invested in even more efficiency and comfort. At the same time, there are even more personnel available on-site to assist passengers.
Ryanair celebrates inaugural flights from Hamburg to Zadar and Kraków
For the start of the 2019 summer timetable, Ryanair is adding two new destinations that, until now, have not been served with direct flights from Hamburg Airport. Yesterday, the airline celebrated its inaugural flight to Zadar on Croatia’s Adriatic coast. The airline now flies there twice a week, every Monday and Friday. Today, the inaugural Ryanair flight to Kraków followed. There will be three flights each week on this route, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
New airline in Hamburg: LEVEL celebrates inaugural flight to Vienna
A new airline celebrated its inaugural flight from Hamburg Airport yesterday evening: LEVEL (Anisec). The low-cost brand of International Airlines Group (IAG) is now flying to Vienna six times per week — every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. This schedule makes the service equally attractive for both business and private passengers. The route is being operated with 180-seat A320 aircraft.

The continuing development of airport competition in Europe
This report from Oxera conducted on behalf of ACI confirms that the trends in the aviation market which drive airport competition are continuing. Indeed, in certain key respects they are gathering pace. Most notably, low-cost carriers (LCCs) continue to increase their share of the short haul market (with the greater mobility of services between airports that implies) and the hubs in the Middle East and Turkey have grown significantly, creating greater competition for European hubs and amongst European airports for the ‘spokes’ into their hubs.

"Above average importance" of aviation for Hamburg
Aviation is of “above-average” importance for Hamburg’s economy as the third largest civil aviation location in the world, according a new study by the VDI/VDE Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit) and the Hamburg Aviation cluster. The survey provides extensive figures on employment, value creation and innovative aviation activities across the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Apart from “anchoring companies” like Airbus, Lufthansa Technik, Hamburg Airport, research institutions, start-ups and universities help drive the industry ahead.
Airbus launches Xtra long range A321neo "Made in Hamburg"
Airbus launched Monday (June 17, 2019) the A321XLR (extra-long-range) jet as the latest addition to its best-selling A320neo family at the Paris Air Show underway in Le Bourget until June 23, 2019. The A321XLR has a range of 4,700 nautical miles and will be flown as a single-aisle aircraft on longer and less frequented routes between Europe and North America, when it launches on the market in 2023. Models of the aircraft type will be painted and the cabins fitted in Hamburg before being delivered to customers in Europe and the Middle East. Airbus is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
26,000 flock to Rotary International Convention in Hamburg
The five-day Rotary International Congress Wednesday (June 5, 2019) in Hamburg’s Trade Fair Centre after delegate numbers topped the 26,000 mark with guests from 170 countries, 35 keynotes, 98 breakout sessions and over 200 humanitarian projects. The convention proved the largest congress in the history of Hamburg’s Trade Fair, according to the Northern German Broadcasting company NDR. Holger Knaack, who hails from the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, became the first German national to be appointed president of Rotary International and will take office in 2020/21. Rotary’s worldwide community consists of more than 1.2 million honorary members.
