Hamburg Airport officially presents modern airfreight facility
he modern infrastructure, located on Weg beim Jaeger, can handle up to 150,000 tonnes of freight each year - more than double the volume handled in 2015. Hamburg Airport is thus optimally positioned for the future. Costing more than 50 million euros, the new facility is replacing the existing cargo terminal from the 1960s.
Hamburg Airport renewing main apron
With a symbolic hammer stroke, Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, and Senator Frank Horch, Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Innovation in the city-state of Hamburg, broke the first piece of concrete on the main apron today, signalling the start of the thorough renewal of the apron. Between now and 2020, Hamburg Airport will be investing around 120 million euros in the comprehensive refurbishment. The work will be conducted in ten staggered phases so as to keep the impact on flight operations to a minimum.
Hamburg Airport and Emirates celebrating 10 years of service
It's celebration time at Hamburg Airport: Today, Hamburg Airport and Emirates are looking back at ten successful years since the establishment of the non-stop service between Hamburg and the world city of Dubai. Since 1 March, 2006, Emirates has been carrying passengers from northern Germany to Dubai in just six hours - and from there, onwards to more than 150 destinations. The route is currently served twice daily with modern Boeing B777-300 aircraft, each carrying up to 364 passengers.

Hamburg celebrates world's largest harbour festival in May
The 830th port anniversary celebrations get underway from May 10-12, 2019 in Hamburg. Visitors can look forward to a diverse programme with 300 vessels including Windjammers, cruise ships, restored museum ships and maritime service vehicles as they parade along the Elbe. The three-day celebrations will take place on the Landungsbrücken, in Speicherstadt, in HafenCity, at the Fischmarkt and at the Museumshafen Oevelgönne.
Hamburg's economic growth above the national average
Commerce in Hamburg growing by 1.7 per cent - Cisco study proves above-average digital level. Industry and construction proved to be important drivers of Hamburg’s economic growth in an overall successful year 2018. The number of people in employment rose by 1.2 per cent or 15,000 to a record 1.26 million. The number of employees in jobs liable for social insurance payments came to 2.4 per cent in 2018 over the previous year.
5.1 per cent growth in Hamburg's tourism industry
In 2018, overnight stays in Hamburg rose 700,000 over 2017, the Hamburg Tourismus GmbH announced Friday (February 22, 2019) at its annual press conference in the Elbphilharmonie. And the tourism industry is expecting growth of 3 to 5 per cent in 2019. The figures for 2018 indicated an increase of 5.1 per cent in overnight stays, according to the Statistikamt Nord. The industry’s 88,690 employees, EUR 4.4 billion in gross added value and around EUR 300 million in tax revenue reflect its clout in Hamburg.

Wacken Open Air
1-3 August, 2019
Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) is a summer open-air heavy metal music festival with approx. 90,000 annual visitors.The international festival has a unique rate of foreigners of over 30%, with up to 10% non-Europeans, from about 30-40 different countries all around the world. Many metal fans travel around half the globe just to stand on cow meadows before stages of Wacken in the middle of nowhere 80 km northwest of Hamburg.
