17.23 million passengers used Hamburg Airport in 2018
In 2018, 17.23 million passengers used Hamburg Airport, approx. 2.2 percent less than in 2017. Aircraft movements, totalling around 156,400 in 2018, were lower than in the year 2000, when just under 10 million passengers used Hamburg Airport. Compared to 2017, the number of aircraft movements declined by around 2.1 percent.

Hamburg planning "Science Center"
Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, noted: “Together with the University and DESY, we want to dedicate an entire city district to science over the next few years. We are developing a centre for basic research and applied science, an incubator for innovation and technology transfer in Science City Bahrenfeld. At the same time, attractive apartments and recreational areas for students, scientists and creative people will be created in the district.”

Hamburg is considered one of the most attractive cities for jobseekers worldwide, according to a survey by Movinga. The Hanseatic city ranked fourth out of 100 locations. Compared to other German cities, Hamburg scored mainly in terms of total employment and disposable income.
Hamburg among northern Germany's leading most innovative cities
Hamburg is among the winners of the European Capital of Innovation Award (I-Capital Award) presented Tuesday (November 6, 2018) during the International Web Summit in Lisbon. Athens came first and won EUR 1 million in prize money while the remaining finalists – Aarhus, Leuven, Toulouse, Umea and Hamburg received EUR 100,000 each.

The Rotary International Convention is one of the most renowned and international congresses worldwide and will take place in Hamburg from 1 to 5 June, 2019. About 25,000 participants from approximately 150 countries are expected to come to the city. Nowhere else can you experience the international spirit of Rotary, the energy of their members and the enthusiasm for their ideas up close like that.
ITU World Triathlon

The Hamburg Triathlon has been a mainstay of the triathlon calendar for pros and amateurs alike since 2002, when it was accepted into the Triathlon ITU World Championship Series, thus joining an exclusive circle of eight iconic venues around the globe.

Pride week with a three-day street festival in city center. The parade on the closing weekend, which was attended by 180,000 people last year, marks the highlight of this colourful event.
Wacken Open Air
1-3 August, 2019
Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) is a summer open-air heavy metal music festival with approx. 90,000 annual visitors.The international festival has a unique rate of foreigners of over 30%, with up to 10% non-Europeans, from about 30-40 different countries all around the world. Many metal fans travel around half the globe just to stand on cow meadows before stages of Wacken in the middle of nowhere 80 km northwest of Hamburg.
