Wizz Air launching five new destinations from Hamburg

Wizz Air is resuming flight operations from Hamburg Airport, just in time for the summer holiday period. Starting at the beginning of July, the airport connects Hamburg with three destinations never before seen in the airport’s timetable. As of 3 July, Wizz Air flies twice a week to Lviv in Ukraine. The airline is also opening a new route to Chișinău in Moldova from 16 July, and to the Serbian capital, Belgrade, from 17 July. There will be two flights per week to Chișinău and three to Belgrade. From 24 July, Wizz Air will also operate two weekly flights to Tirana in Albania. Furthermore, the airline is expanding its existing service to Bucharest, with four flights per week to the Romanian capital from 9 August.

Hamburg Airport: stable traffic figures in a difficult market environment

For 2019, Hamburg Airport recorded stable passenger figures at a constant high level. The year was characterised by a difficult market environment. Increasing cost pressure and a weakening economy led to the insolvency of established airlines and tour operators. At the same time, Hamburg’s route network remains diverse and passengers want to travel as much as ever. For 2020, the airport expects the consolidation of traffic numbers to continue.

Alitalia to fly from Hamburg Airport to Milan

For the start of the 2020 summer timetable, Alitalia is opening a scheduled route from Hamburg Airport: From 29 March 2020, the Italian airline will connect Hamburg with Milan Linate airport on a daily flight. With its inner-city location, the Alitalia hub of Milan Linate is ideal for business travellers, who benefit from the short journey to the centre of Milan.

Travel boom in 2018

Nearly two thirds of Germans travelled last year - thanks not only to the good economic situation. “A strong economy and low unemployment were the main reasons behind the 2018 travel boom,” Ulrich Reinhardt, scientific head of the BAT Foundation for issues of the future, said on presenting the 35th German Tourism Analysis. 62 per cent of all Germans packed a suitcase last year, more than ever before since the Tourism Analysis began.

Port expects rising trade with Japan

Significant growth in trade volumes between Hamburg and Japan are expected this year since the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement took effect on Friday (February 1, 2019). A total of 1.3 million tonnes of maritime goods were imported and exported in 2017 between Japan and the Port of Hamburg. Almost all goods (99 per cent) are shipped in containers.

Businesses in Hamburg off to good start in New Year

Commerce in Hamburg was off to an above-average start in 2019, according to the Chamber of Commerce’s economic barometer. Nine out of ten companies surveyed have expressed satisfaction with their current business situation and 84.8 per cent of companies expect the situation to remain the same or even improve.

Discover history, tradition and a Hanseatic heritage at one of Hamburg's many wonderful Christmas markets. The prettiest is set just outside Hamburg's most impressive town hall. Hosted by Roncalli's Circus, you can discover lots of lovingly decorated stalls and the punch is even served by clowns and circus artists. But there are a variety of other 'styles' of market dotted around the city.
