Hamburg is THE cruise port for 2019

It’s “full steam ahead” again this year! The Port of Hamburg is in the global top 20 for cruise passenger growth and has even overtaken Copenhagen. With 223 ship’s calls and over 900,000 passengers, the city broke all its records in 2018, underlining its position as Germany’s most important cruise port. Even stronger growth is projected for 2019.

Return to growth forecast for 2019

After the unexpectedly high growth in 2016 and 2017, Hamburg Airport saw a consolidation in 2018, with passenger numbers remaining at a high level of 17.23 million passengers. This was 2.2 percent less than in 2017, but the forecast for this year is positive with slight growth expected. The airport continues to invest in its infrastructure to be able to meet the increasing demand for mobility.

Happy Birthday, Elbphilharmonie!

Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie celebrated its first birthday on 11 January. Just one year old and it has already had 4.5 million visitors to the plaza and some 850,000 concertgoers. The spectacular riverside venue is already one of Europe’s most popular attractions, with three times as many visitors as Neuschwanstein Castle. And Hamburg is feeling it, with 4.5 percent year-on-year growth in overnight stays (13.9 million for 2017). “Elphi“ put the city in the world’s press, and the lure of Hamburg continues to grow.
